Rehabilitation unit
The
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi—Shoreline rehabilitation
unit is a 30-bed inpatient facility located on the fourth floor
of the hospital.
The
unit is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation
Facilities and offers treatment for adult and geriatric clients
who are recovering from neurological, orthopedic or debilitating
conditions that affect their ability to live independently. The
goal of treatment is to help clients achieve the highest level of
function possible.
Our
staff includes an experienced and certified physiatrist (physician
of physical medicine and rehabilitation), licensed occupational
and physical therapists, a speech pathologist, rehabilitation nurses,
a recreational therapist, a neuropsychologist, social workers, dietitians
and pharmacists.
The
rehabilitation program consists of an average of three hours of
therapy at least five days a week. We hold weekly conferences with
the rehabilitation team and the client's physician. These meetings
are held to discuss the client's progress, discharge planning and
individual needs.
We
also have family conferences to discuss recommendations for home
equipment, follow-up therapy and the client's overall progress.
If needed, we will conduct a home evaluation to identify any problems
the client may encounter upon his or her return home. This allows
the family the time needed to make changes to ease the transition
home.
