Tumor
surgery
A
tumor in the brain may be removed with surgery, depending on its
size, type and location. When the tumor or surgery affects certain
parts of the brain, it can affect a person's ability to move, speak
or control some muscles.
After
surgery to remove a brain tumor, people often need rehabilitation
to help them adjust to changes in their physical abilities.
Rehabilitation
may include:
- Help
overcoming difficulties with bathing, dressing, eating or going
to the bathroom.
-
Strengthening a weakened limb or limbs.
- Improving
balance to help prevent injuries from falls.
- Speech
therapy to help people talk, express thoughts or deal with trouble
swallowing.
The
specific goals of therapy will differ for each person, depending
on which abilities the tumor has affected and to what extent.
