Ergonomic
evaluations
An
ergonomic evaluation is a detailed assessment of a workstation to
make sure it promotes good body mechanics and posture.
A
poorly arranged workstation can contribute to problems such as headaches,
carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder or neck strains, low-back pain
and poor circulation.
To
help prevent these problems, the therapist makes recommendations
for improving the workstation or the individual's habits.
The
therapist's recommendations may include:
-
Rearranging the workstation.
- Purchasing
or making adjustments to equipment, such as chairs, specific handle
types, or standing mats.
-
Taking regular short breaks to change position or move.
- Learning
stretches that target frequently stressed muscles.
- Performing
exercises that improve posture and body position.
