ACL
injuries
The
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a tough fiber that connects
your thighbone to your shinbone, helping to stabilize your knee
joint.
ACL
injuries often happen when a person changes direction quickly, slows
down from running or lands from a jump. A torn ACL won't heal without
treatment and usually requires surgery.
After
surgery it may take as long as a year for the knee to fully recover.
Physical therapy is essential, especially right after surgery, for
regaining as much use of the knee as possible.
Physical therapy may include exercises to restore range of motion,
strengthen the muscles in the thigh and calf, and help restore joint
stability.
